Purpose

The purpose of this programme is to equip students with a thorough understanding of nuclear fuel design, handling, and disposal, as well as the behavior of materials in high-radiation environments. Students will learn to interpret and apply advanced theoretical models to analyze material properties and fuel evolution in nuclear reactors. The program emphasizes problem-solving, integration of advanced concepts, and practical application of breeding cycles to optimize fuel stocks. Critical cross-field skills, including effective communication, time management, and reflection on learning strategies, are developed to ensure students can analyze, evaluate, and communicate complex nuclear engineering challenges.

Admission Requirements

Applicants require at least a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). A Science, Engineering, or technical degree at NQF Level 7, including one year of Physics and two years of Mathematics.

Selection Process

Selection is based on academic merit.
