Purpose
This programme provides an in-depth understanding of the principles, design, and operation of commercial nuclear power reactors. It explores neutron behavior, reactor materials, and physics governing reactivity, control, and stability. Students will apply advanced theoretical and computational models to analyze performance, safety, and thermodynamic behavior in various reactor types, including PWR, BWR, CANDU, and Generation IV systems. Emphasis is placed on criticality, reactor kinetics, thermo-hydraulics, and intrinsic safety features. The course equips learners with the knowledge and analytical skills required to evaluate reactor technologies and contribute to innovation in nuclear power system design and operation.
Admission Requirements
Applicants require at least a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). A Science, Engineering, or technical degree at NQF Level 7, including one year of Physics and two years of Mathematics.
Selection Process
Selection is based on academic merit.
