Purpose

This programme aims to equip students with foundational and practical skills in numerical methods and computational techniques relevant to nuclear energy. Students will learn elementary programming, root finding, curve fitting, numerical solutions to differential equations (e.g., Runge-Kutta), and Monte Carlo simulation methods, as well as an overview of reactor simulations. The program emphasizes the formulation of numerical concepts, application of analytical and numerical solutions to complex problems, and comparison of computational techniques. Students also develop critical cross-field skills, including problem-solving, self-organization, effective communication, and reflective learning strategies, enabling them to tackle diverse computational challenges in nuclear engineering with accuracy and efficiency.

Admission Requirements

Applicants require at least a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). A Science, Engineering, or technical degree at NQF Level 7, including one year of Physics and two years of Mathematics.

Selection Process

Selection is based on academic merit.
