Purpose

Public International Law is a dynamic and constantly evolving field of the law, and increasingly useful and relevant. The South African Constitution obliges the consideration of international law when interpreting the Bill of Rights, and this impacts the way we practice many areas of the law domestically. Whether you are interested in the response to armed conflict, the prevention and prosecution of international crimes, the protection of human rights, or how the numerous environmental crises such as climate change are regulated, the LLM in International Law offered by the Faculty of Law of the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg offers you a chance to specialise in this field of the law. This LLM takes an interdisciplinary approach and assesses international legal questions from the perspective of international law as well as from a regional and sub- regional African perspectives.

Curriculum

The lecturing style is interactive. Students benefit from close contact with their lecturers and with experts from the relevant legal field. The diversity of the participants in the LLM program contributes significantly to the educational experience.

Admission Requirements

The minimum entry requirement is an LLB degree (or equivalent qualification) at NQF Level 7 or 8 and a minimum number of credits of 624. Candidates for admission to Master鈥檚 degrees in general need to have obtained their previous degree with an average mark of at least 65%.

Selection Process

Students may be selected for entry to the qualification. This selection will be based on one or more objectively justifiable and appropriate criteria. Such criteria may include the academic merit of an applicant, the relevant practical experience of an applicant and the number of students who can be effectively accommodated in a programme or module having regard to the high level of personal interaction required between Master鈥檚 students and supervisors/study leaders.
