The Institutional Research (IR) is one of the sub-units that fall under the聽Institutional Research and Planning Unit.聽The IR department is responsible for聽institutional research, including conducting annual student experience surveys among undergraduate and postgraduate students, graduates and dropouts. Undergraduate Experience Survey

The UJ undergraduate experience survey is conducted every year with an overall objective of identifying what aspects of teaching and learning provision students experience positively, and where there may be concerns identified by students that need to be addressed to improve their overall teaching and learning experience.

Postgraduate Experience Survey

The 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg (UJ) has since 2013 annually conducted a Postgraduate Student Experience Survey. The aim has been for UJ to get a clearer understanding of the programme-related experiences of its postgraduate students, to assist in learning programme revitalisation and improving supervision practices, and to determine the extent of achieving the anticipated programme learning outcomes.

Graduate Employability Survey

The overarching aim of conducting the survey is to gather and analyse relevant data about UJ鈥檚 recently graduated students鈥 employability status. The data informs university policy and monitoring processes, such as the Strategic Plan and the UJ Annual Performance Plan.

Dropout Survey

The drop-out survey was administered for the first time in 2020; it was administered only to postgraduate students. The purpose of the survey is to find out the reasons why students drop out of their studies or the reasons behind canceling studies.

Data Briefs

The DIPEM Data Briefs series was introduced at the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg (UJ) in 2023 as an internal communication initiative aimed at presenting key information in a clear, concise, and digestible format. These briefs cover topics relevant to both the university and the broader higher education sector, and are tailored for the UJ Management Executive Committee (MEC) and other internal stakeholders. Rather than supporting direct decision-making, the purpose of the briefs is to enhance awareness and understanding of emerging trends, institutional developments, and sectoral dynamics in a user-friendly manner.

Orange Carpet Welcome Survey

The Orange Carpet Welcome Survey has been conducted during the student registration period since 2023 and is administered every two years. It specifically targets first-time entering undergraduate students who are recipients of the Orange Carpet Rewards Programme. The Employer Survey is conducted every year with the aim of understanding graduate employability from the employer鈥檚 perspective. This survey is for employers from a variety of industries who have recently employed graduates from the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg (UJ). The survey provides the data that UJ can use to understand employer鈥檚 expectations and needs with a view to enhance support for students to improve their chances of obtaining employment.

Honours and Postgraduate Diploma Survey

The survey is new and was administered for the first time in 2024. The survey targeted students in the Postgraduate below Master鈥檚 category, which comprises the Honours and Postgraduate (PG). The main objective of this survey is to identify aspects of teaching and learning that Honours and Postgraduate Diploma students perceive as working well and what they think may require improvement so that interventions can be developed and implemented where necessary.
