About Prof Marlize Lombard
Professor with Research Focus in Cognitive and Stone Age Archaeology
鈥婼ometime during the Middle Stone Age, in sub-Saharan Africa, Homo sapiens evolved biologically, behaviourally and cognitively. My research agenda is geared towards the generation of knowledge about all three of these evolutionary processes in the southern African context and how they relate to each other. The long-term aim is to create an integrated, detailed a鈥媙d holistic understanding of the evolution of our species in the region. Thus: 鈥淚f southern Africa is a hotspot for Homo sapiens biological and cogni-behavioural evolution, how do we provide testable hypotheses/lines of evidence for a robust interpretation of the scenario?
One way to explore this question is through a human techno-behaviour-neuro-genetic coevolutionary lens, which does not give final answers yet, but is a new way to build testable hypotheses:
