About Prof Edmore T. Marinda
Edmore T. Marinda is a Professor of Biostatistics and co-director of the Pan African Centre for Epidemic Research Centre (PACER). The centre is an Extramural Research Unit (ERU) of the South African Medical Research Council and the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg (SAMRC/UJ PACER). The centre undertakes research on human epidemics, collaborating with local and international multi-disciplinary research partners. The PACER program has a large capacity-building component, and it is currently hosting fifteen PhD candidates and one post-doctoral fellow.
Prof Marinda has over thirty years of academic teaching and research experience in health research, spanning clinical trials, large national health surveys, to evaluating health programmes and interventions. The key research projects that he has been involved in include being a co-principal investigator of the South African National HIV sero-behavioural surveys (SABSSM V and VI, 2017 & 2022), co-principal investigator of the South African National COVID-19 sero-prevalence survey (2021/2), and as a senior biostatistician on a large clinical trial, the Zimbabwe Vitamin A for Mothers and Babies (ZVITAMBO) project. Edmore鈥檚 expertise spans biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, health economics, health policy, health systems strengthening and impact evaluation.
Before joining the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg, Prof Marinda was an acting Divisional Executive/Research Director at the Impact Centre, Human Sciences Research Council, where he worked for nine years. Edmore previously served for four years as a Research, Evaluation & Monitoring Team Leader at Mott MacDonald International Health Division at Mott MacDonald Pvt Ltd, and before that, he worked for eight years as a senior biostatistician/researcher at the 欧美福利100000 of the Witwatersrand. He worked as a senior biostatistician for ZVITAMBO for six years. Edmore has worked on projects across Africa, and he has published widely.
Prof Marinda holds a PhD in Biostatistics from the 欧美福利100000 of the Witwatersrand, a Master of Science in Medical Statistics from the 欧美福利100000 of Newcastle, Australia, and Master鈥檚 and Honours degrees from the 欧美福利100000 of Zimbabwe.
