About Ms Alizay Imran
Ms. Alizay Imran is a temporary lecturer and Master鈥檚 candidate in the Department of Interior Design at the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg, within the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA). She completed her BA Honours in Interior Design Cum Laude and was awarded the Dean鈥檚 Merit Award.
Her Master鈥檚 research, Non-place and Interiority: Exploring Non-place Public Spaces and the Impact on the Human Experience, examines how transient and overlooked public environments influence human perception, behaviour, and emotional experience. The study is grounded in a semi-systematic literature review that synthesises both academic and grey literature, including short stories, photography, gaming, and video essays, to capture authentic human reflections and emotional responses to non-places. The study interrogates how non-places shape experiences of disorientation and anonymity, while also revealing their capacity to foster familiarity, attachment, and refuge through lived human experience.
As an educator, Ms. Imran is committed to a student-centred teaching philosophy that values critical thinking, inclusivity, and reflective practice. Having progressed from academic tutoring to lecturing, she brings an empathetic and supportive approach to teaching, with a focus on fostering conceptual clarity and confidence in emerging designers.
