About Mr. Mawande Mdluli
Mr. Mawande Mdluli is a multi-faceted interior designer, author, academic, and researcher in the field of human-centric design innovation. His career reflects a dynamic intersection between academia, creative leadership, and the application of digital technologies within interior design.
Mr. Mdluli completed his Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design (2020鈥2022) and BA Honours in Interior Design (2023), both with Cum Laude, from the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg. His honours dissertation focused on redefining urban spaces through the repurposing of underutilised office buildings into regional hubs for digital content creation. Mr. Mdluli has also earned the UJenius Award (2020) as well as the UJ Top Achiever Bursary (2021)
He is currently a Master’s Candidate in Interior Design at the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg. His research investigates the use of Digital Twin technology in interior environments, emphasising data-driven decision-making and its role in human-centric design within the paradigm of society 5.0.
Professionally, Mr. Mdluli brings a combination of technical proficiency and visionary creativity. His internship at SCS Architects in 2022 laid the groundwork for a specialisation in hotel and lodge design, which he continues to pursue both locally and internationally. Since 2023, he has served as a Technical Design Specialist at Meg Ralph Spaces, contributing to high-end hospitality projects.
Complementing his design practice, Mr. Mdluli is deeply invested in design education. He served as an Academic Tutor (2023鈥2024) and currently holds a dual role as a First-Year Lecturer and Senior Student Coordinator at the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA) at UJ. His mentorship and coordination efforts demonstrate a commitment to nurturing the next generation of designers through academic support and peer-led guidance.
