Biography:
Prof. Megersa O. Dinka听is a graduate with PhD from 欧美福利100000 of Natural Resources and Applied Life Science (Vienna) in 2010. He has MSc in Irrigation Engineering from ArbaMinch 欧美福利100000 (Ethiopia). He has more than 24 years of experience as a researcher and about 20 years of experience as a university lecturer. 听Before joining UJ as a lecturer (2014), he served as Assistance Professor and Head of School at Haramaya 欧美福利100000 and did postdoctoral research at Tshwane university of Technology (South Africa) in the Department of Civil Engineering Science for consecutive two years (July 2012 鈥 July 2014). He served as the Head of Department (Jan 2021 -Aug 2024) of Civil Engineering Science at 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg.
Prof Dinka is specialized in the areas of water resource engineering specific to hydrology, hydraulics and water management aspects. He has taught various courses and modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels successfully. He has been teaching different undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Haramaya 欧美福利100000 such as Hydrology; Hydraulics; Surveying and Leveling, Remote Sensing and GIS Technology; Irrigation & Drainage Engineering; Watershed Management; River Engineering, Canal and canal structures, water resource management. He has been teaching Hydrology, Hydraulics and Water Treatment Modules at UJ. He also taught several short-term trainings courses in Ethiopia and South Africa.
Moreover, Prof Dinka supervised (38 M and 14 D) and examined several postgraduate students. In supervision, he also demonstrated a multi-disciplinary and a good mentoring talent. He supervised students in different research areas such as Hydrology and Hydrologic Modelling (Water Balance, Flooding, water quality, etc), Hydraulics, Waste/Water Treatment, Application of Remote Sensing and GIS; Irrigation and drainage Engineering; Watershed (or natural resources) Management; Climate change, application of AI models, etc.
Prof. Dinka completed a number of research projects (local and international) and consultancy works. He demonstrated a strong capacity in research project coordination/leadership. He also demonstrated a strong publication capacity in areas of water and environmental engineering. He has published more than 80 Journal articles, 4 books, 25 book chapters and 25 proceedings in international accredited publications. His research publications and impacts make him among the top scholars in the world in the areas of Water and Environmental Engineering.
