About Prof Letitia Smuts

Biographical

Letitia Smuts is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg. She completed her master鈥檚 degree in Sociology cum laude at the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg and is the recipient of the Vrije 欧美福利100000-NRF Desmond Tutu doctoral scholarship. She completed her PhD at Vrije 欧美福利100000, Amsterdam with a thesis titled: Getting it 鈥楽traight鈥: (Hetero)Sexual Identities, Heteronormativity and Gender in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has also served on the South African Sociological Association (SASA) in various capacities, including as a council member from 2009 to 2011, student essay coordinator from 2014 to 2019, and most recently as the treasurer on the executive committee from 2019 to 2021. In addition, Dr Smuts currently holds the position of SASA co-working group convenor for the Lesbian, Gay and Queer Studies Working group.
