| 1929: | The first Edgars store opens in Cape Town. |
| 1935: | Sydney Press joins the company as a temporary employee. |
| 1937: | Press opens the first Johannesburg Edgars. |
| 1946: | Sydney Press, Edgars goes public with a listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and begins a period of strong growth. |
| 1960: | Edgars tops 135 stores. |
| 1965: | Edgars tops 300 stores; Sales House and Jet were founded by Sydney Press. |
| 1978: | The company launches the first flagship Edgars in Market Street, Johannesburg. |
