The Faculty of Science is a dynamic Faculty where new knowledge, leading scientists and technologist are developed through innovation. The faculty creates, applies and disseminates new knowledge for the advancement of pure and applied sciences
The Faculty of Science at the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg offers a range of funding opportunities to support students and researchers in advancing their academic and research pursuits.
Ethical clearance is required for any research project, or teaching activity that will form part of a research project (e.g.SOTL publications), that involve human participants, human tissues/samples, personal/private data, any animals (vertebrates or invertebrates), or animal tissues/samples.
Soweto Science Centre is the Faculty of Science鈥檚 flagship community engagement project. Located at the Soweto Campus of the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg, it offers grade 10, 11 and 12 learners extra science classes and professional development to school teachers.
The UJenius Club is a Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 initiative to acknowledge outstanding academic performances by undergraduate students and to offer members聽additional opportunities for intellectual and professional development.
Community Engagement (CE) is one of the core functions of the Faculty of Science. Through various science-related CE initiatives, the faculty strives to create and consolidate a culture of science, to address specific community needs.
Innovatively creating new knowledge and leading scientists
The Faculty of Science is a vibrant, dynamic and diverse community where new technologies are developed and applied to improve the quality of all life on earth. We offer nationally and internationally accredited qualifications in scientific disciplines such as computer and numerical sciences, earth and life sciences, chemical and physical sciences. Our聽11 departments, research centres and community engagement project allow us a presence on all four campuses.
The Faculty focuses on creating an environment that is conducive to teaching and learning, as well as generating and sharing new knowledge. Our primary contributions in academia remain the products of high-quality research and innovation. We also contribute to community engagement through township based science-enrichment projects.
Non-academic units housed in the Faculty include聽SPECTRUM (an Analytical Research Facility).聽In addition, the Faculty has a regular听狈别飞蝉濒别迟迟别谤听and is also involved in聽Community Outreach Programmes聽We offer聽excellent bursaries for top achievers聽in Science.
