Brief description of programme: Students must complete five courses in聽the Anthropology Studies Honours programme. One of these courses is an聽independent research paper carried out under the supervision of an academic in聽the Department.聽The compulsory methodology course, of which a component is an introduction聽to statistics, is offered in the first semester. With this course as a base,聽students may choose to specialise in Social and/or Cultural Anthropology, or聽Paleoanthropology.聽If students choose the former, they may choose from courses such as 鈥榊outh,聽Identity and Language鈥, 鈥楢nthropology of the Body鈥, and 鈥楴ature and Society鈥.聽Electives can be chosen from a wide variety of social science courses.聽If Paleoanthropology is chosen, a structured programme of Paleoanthropology,聽Anatomy, and Archaeology is on offer. A course in field research methods in聽Archaeology and Paleoanthropology is also compulsory in this stream.聽In both streams, the research paper is based on independent fieldwork. Topics聽are formulated during the methodology courses.


MA (Anthropology) Research Master鈥檚

DLitt et Phil (Anthropology)

Brief description of programme: The Doctoral study programme comprises聽a thesis written under supervision that makes an original contribution to the聽field of Anthropology on a topic selected in consultation with the Department聽of Anthropology and Development Studies. A Doctoral defence (of the聽proposal and the thesis) is required in accordance with the regulations of the聽Faculty of Humanities. An article ready for publication on the thesis content is聽also required.
