Purpose

The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying students with the ability to:
鈥 Perform independent scientific research with an original component
鈥 Contribute to knowledge of and insight into emergency medical care as well as the specific discipline of research
鈥 Display skills in related research methodologies and in proper formulation through a master鈥檚 dissertation
鈥 Reflect upon decision-making, self-directedness and contributions to medical science.

Outcomes

The student will be able to:
鈥 Identify, formulate, prepare and solve research problems.
鈥 Execute the research project at the appropriate level.
鈥 Collect, organize, check, evaluate and write a proper literature review organizing the appropriate information in an understandable and logic manner.
鈥 Acquire learning abilities in the research context including the assessment of scientific literature, execution of research methodologies including the gathering of data and evaluating the information obtained.
鈥 Report research findings at the appropriate level.
鈥 Make conclusions, suggestions and recommendations based on the data collected that are reasonable and justifiable.

Admission Requirements

  • A 4-year Bachelor鈥檚 Degree in Emergency Medical Care or an equivalent qualification at an equivalent standard as determined by a Status Committee and approved by the Faculty Board.
  • Applications from persons with a BTech degree in Emergency Medical Care or equivalent qualifications will be considered by a constituted status committee in line with the Universities and Faculties regulations.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on:
鈥 Consideration of a research concept note
鈥 Structured personal interview

The selection and allocation of postgraduate students depends on the availability of supervisors.
