The department offers two disciplines programmes, namely, Mechanical Engineering qualifications and Industrial Engineering qualifications. Both programmes are offered at Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech), Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech) Honours, Master of Engineering (MEng) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The MIET department is the largest department in the faculty both in staff and in enrolled student population. The department offers undergraduate programmes that are fully accredited with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and Council of Higher Education (CHE). The programmes are in alignment with the world technological changes i.e. 4IR, virtual and augmented reality, automation system, 3-D printing technologies, machine learning etc.
