The Centre for Advanced Learning Technologies in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (CALTSTEAM) undertakes research in the application of advanced learning technologies that will include virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial learning and machine learning in the context of STEAM education. The Centre is an academic entity of the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg associated with the Department of Science and Technology Education in the Faculty of Education.

The major vision of CALTSTEAM is to improve access to high-quality education in STEAM by harnessing the affordances of advanced learning technologies (ALT). CALTSTEAM鈥檚 approach is to build socio-economic and human capital development architecture through robust research, teaching and skills development.听

• Advance scholarship through innovative research in technology-enhanced learning in STEAM education, and thereby enhance UJ鈥檚 strategic objective of excellence in research and innovation.
• Promote and facilitate collaborative and interdisciplinary research in technology-enhanced learning in STEAM education.听
• Develop educational software applications (with potential for commercialization) in advanced learning technologies such as virtual and augmented reality.听
• Transfer and mobilize knowledge gained through research for the benefit of the STEAM education community.
• Lead discussion and debate in relevant academic, business, government, regional, continental, and international fora as well as the wider donor, civil society, and media community outreach, critically focused on the role of advanced learning technologies in STEAM education.听
• Supervise students undertaking postgraduate studies in advanced learning and technologies in STEAM education and address and support employability within the correct industries or as government technocrats and practitioners.
