PhD Economics with specialisation in Industrial Development (P3PN8Q)
The purpose of this qualification is to develop advanced competencies in the mastering, interpretation, understanding, analysis and application of economic models. A qualifying candidate should show evidence of original and independent scientific work. Prospective students must prepare a research proposal in consultation with a member of staff of the School of Economics and Econometrics. Once a decision has been made that the proposal has been accepted, the prospective student will be allowed to register for the degree.

Postgraduate Funding
The DSI-NRF South African Research Chair in Industrial Development (SARChI-ID), hosted at the College of Business and Economics (CBE), offers nominations for National Research Foundation (NRF) bursaries for economics Masters and PhD students who will be registered at the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg (UJ). Bursary holders join a prestigious and dynamic research community at SARChI-ID, which is led by Prof Rasmus Lema.
Applications open once a year for high-achieving and motivated students, whose research is in or linked to the broad field of industrial development, to be nominated for these bursaries. Bursaries cover fees, accommodation and include an electronic device allowance. Additional funding is available from SARChI-ID for research expenses, travel to national and international conferences, and training courses, awarded on a case-by-case basis. Students are also provided with office facilities. Masters bursaries cover up to two years of study, PhD bursaries cover up to three years of study.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship
The DSI/NRF South African Research Chair in Industrial Development (SARChI-ID) has positions available for postdoctoral research fellowships. The fellowships are for an initial one year period, renewable for up to three years. There are no lecturing obligations. Postdoctoral research fellows are paid a monthly salary and are provided with office space and facilities, a laptop, research assistance and administrative support, and access to funding for research and travel.
PhD must have been obtained within the past five years.
The focus is primarily in economics, but applications from candidates in cognate disciplines (e.g. development studies, innovation studies, science and technology studies, business, management, industrial sociology, international development, international political economy, public policy) will also be considered.
