Sustain Her
The Sustain Her Project is a Department of Fashion鈥檚 project in partnership with Love Our City (non-profit organisation),聽 and entails recycling textile waste into reusable sanitary pads that are gifted to schoolgirls in Johannesburg who are affected by period poverty. The aim of this project is to reduce school absenteeism that is a result of a lack of appropriate menstruation products, thereby improving the likelihood that girls will complete their education.
African Reclaimers Organisation (ARO)
African Reclaimers Organisation (ARO) training in basic sewing and patternmaking forms part of the ARO-UJ Reclaiming Praxis Network (Working Package: Alternative Employment for Reclaimers). The bigger project aims to strengthen ARO's capacity to achieve economic, social, and environmental justice for reclaimers. It envisions empowering reclaimers and the informal recycling sector through innovative academic-community partnerships. This effort will contribute to a circular economy, promote social equity, and enhance environmental stewardship in Johannesburg and across the continent.
