Abstract
The paradigm shift in condition monitoring 鈥 with the advent of new technologies 鈥 has prompted a rethinking of this vital component in asset management and maintenance strategy contexts. New opportunities in condition monitoring have arisen with the movement towards data-driven and hybrid approaches, in contrast to conventional model-based methods, making incipient fault diagnostics and advanced prognostics possible. Artificial intelligence/machine learning aptly lends itself to automated online processing and inferential functions, using the large amounts of condition and process data generated by industrial assets, vis-脿-vis modern cyber-physical systems and IoT. These opportunities are accompanied by technical challenges, inter alia, data imbalance at the device level and data integration at the system level. This talk deals with the 鈥渨hat鈥, 鈥渨hy鈥, and 鈥渉ow鈥 of modern condition monitoring in the asset management context, with a focus on leveraging the opportunities and highlighting the challenges.
