UJ implements Facial Recognition for a Secure Registration

In a significant stride towards ensuring secure and fraud-resistant registration processes, the 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg has integrated facial recognition technology into its registration process.

As part of the registration process, all new students who create their Ulink password for the first time will receive an SMS to follow a personalised link to do a facial recognition verification.

We want to make all students aware of scams and fraudulent activities happening on and around our campuses.

Recently, we鈥檝e learned that some individuals are pretending to be university staff or student representatives. They offer help with academic space, bursaries, accommodation or registration, but only if you pay them. Once they receive the money, they either disappear or use fraudulent credit cards to make payments on your behalf. These transactions are later reversed, leaving students responsible for the debt.

Please stay alert and protect yourself. If something feels off or if anyone asks you for money in exchange for assistance, report it immediately.

The 欧美福利100000 of Johannesburg is a cashless environment, and no amount of money must be given to any of our staff members or student representatives to get any assistance. Students and parents are urged to always be alert and to only interact with the university using the official platforms. We also urge them to report any suspicious activities to our fraud line.

Requests for cancellation or change of studies from 9 February 2026 should be submitted to the relevant Faculty // College where you are registered.

Registration Survey:

To support our students and improve our services, we have launched a registration survey. Your feedback will help us tailor our services to better meet student needs. Please take a moment to complete the student satisfaction survey and share your insights.

Once you鈥檝e finished the survey, you will be entered into a draw where five students will receive R1,000 in financial assistance toward their 2026 tuition. Your details will only be used to verify your entry and for the draw.

Library fines and payment:

Students can pay library fines online. However we can only lift blocks placed on students three days after payment as we need to receive these funds before the block is lifted.
